It is the process of taking the financial data from your front-office trading systems (e.g. Murex, Front Arena, Kondor+, Calypso etc.), combining it with data from your accounting general ledgers, risk systems, legal document systems and CRM systems and turning it into the kind of information that can really drive your capital markets business forward.

Firstly, one has to deal with huge amounts data that can come from many different source systems that exist on many different software platforms: front office trading systems, CRM systems, legal document systems, risk systems, limit systems, collateral systems … the list very quickly gets very long! Secondly, the nature of the business is often very complicated as increasing numbers of transactions are done with increasingly complex derivative financial instruments covering multiple asset classes. This means that to stand the best chance of success you need a company that has BOTH the technical knowledge AND the business knowledge in investment banking and capital markets to guide you to achieving financial business intelligence!
